[Hero Wars Guide]Strategy and Tactics of the Hero Tournament of Power

Winners and Losers of the Hero Tournament of Power

The balance of advantages and disadvantages in this event is almost the opposite of what we usually see.

  • In most events, players who have been playing for a long time tend to have the upper hand.
  • In this event, however, players who have been active for about 1 to 3 years tend to have the biggest advantage.

So what exactly does this mean? Let’s take a closer look.

The number of days since starting the game affects the outcome

New players who just started

  • Since this event focuses on hero development, new players will naturally feel at a disadvantage because they haven’t had time to accumulate development resources.
  • If your team level hasn’t even reached 130, it’s unrealistic to expect you to accumulate enough resources specifically for this event.
  • Players with team levels below 130 will be matched against others in the same range. For teams below 130, matchmaking is finely divided into level bands.
  • As a result, for new players, the event often becomes a matter of who is willing to spend more money. To win without spending, you would have to build up your development resources steadily over a long period of time.
  • Because spending plays a large role in competition at this stage, players who are willing to pay for advantages have the upper hand, while free-to-play players are at a significant disadvantage compared to those who have been playing for years.

Veteran Paying Players

  • Players who have been active for over five years and have spent money face the opposite problem as beginners.
  • Their hero development is already so advanced that there’s very little room to increase their power for this event.
  • In particular, those who have fully developed all of their heroes after years of investment will find that there’s almost nothing left to work on during this event.

Veteran players with full Ascension Trees

  • These players will also be at a disadvantage.
  • Leveling up the Ascension Tree is one of the most efficient ways to gain power quickly, especially the Mage Branch, which benefits many heroes and serves as a crucial final step.
  • Top guild players, who typically have all of their Ascension Trees completed, often find it very difficult to make meaningful progress in this event.

Players likely to win

  • Players with approximately 1 to 3 years of experience in guilds that are active in guild raids are especially favored in this event.
  • They can gather Ascension resources from Guild Raid rewards and use them effectively here.
  • By focusing on strengthening key heroes with event rewards, stockpiling resources, and strategically unleashing them during the event, these players can gain a significant advantage.
  • When pitted against veterans or top guild players who have limited room for growth.
  • These mid-level players can use the timing of their growth to outperform their competition.

Players who haven’t leveled up have a slight advantage

  • layers who have left many Heroes at level 1 also have a slight advantage. They can quickly increase their power by using a large number of extra potions during the event.
  • Similarly, players who haven’t leveled many skills also have an advantage. However, there is a waiting period between leveling up, usually in 20-level increments. While you might think that using emeralds to speed this up would help, it’s not really recommended. This method isn’t ideal for a final push.
  • Keep in mind that once you use a development resource in this event, you generally can’t use it again. Choosing the right time to invest your resources is critical to your success.

Regarding Gift of the Elements

  • This event refers to your previous maximum power.
  • Resetting your Gift of the Elements does not count as “upgrading” – the game uses the difference between your current and highest recorded power to calculate how much you can upgrade.
  • However, reallocating resources from a reset Gift of the Elements to other areas of development is effective. For example, daily quests that strengthen skins and skills will continue to strengthen your heroes, subtly changing the composition of your maximum power while keeping it lower.
  • Resources gained from a Gift of the Elements reset can be stored and used strategically during the event.
  • Gifts of the Elements can also be used during the final sprint, but they are less time-efficient than other buffing methods. They’re best used for fine-tuning and last-minute adjustments.

Being able to participate in the last 5 minutes is critical

  • When players who still have room to develop resources are competing, the last 5 minutes of the event are often a final sprint, with players racing to increase their power by 100,000 or more.
  • Logging in and being active during this final window is one of the key requirements for winning.
  • However, the range of improvements that can be made in just 5 minutes is quite limited, so preparation is everything. Players who have prepared methods to quickly increase their power in this short time frame will have a clear advantage.

How to increase Hero Power in a limited time

  • The most important method is to upgrade the Ascension Tree, as it boosts the stats of multiple heroes at once, making it extremely efficient.
  • The next recommended method is to upgrade artifact stars. For example, upgrading a level 130 artifact from star 1 to star 6 can provide a significant power spike in a short amount of time.
  • Upgrading glyphs and skins can also be effective, but only if you decide which ones to develop early and prepare the necessary materials in advance.

Preparing for a Performance Boost in a Limited Time

  • Since there’s no time to think in the final moments, decide ahead of time which heroes to develop and which stats to prioritize.
  • Convert items like Skin Stone Chests into usable resources ahead of time to maximize your chances of success.
  • Avoid rushing through quests as this can cause technical problems. It’s also a good idea to have a smartphone on hand to log in, just in case your PC encounters problems.

Two strategies for the final sprint

  • There are two main approaches.
  • The first is to use all of your accumulated materials at once to dramatically increase your power. However, if you expect your opponents to counter, you may need to increase your power more cautiously, watching their movements before committing.
  • The second point is that you should expect some players to make a last-minute push, so it’s wise to build up a lead beforehand. For example, aim for a power differential of about 50,000 to 100,000 to stay on the defensive. That way, even if someone tries to make a last-ditch sprint, your power will be high enough to prevent them from catching up. It’s an effective strategy to keep them from continuing their push.

If you can’t make the final sprint

  • Since Emeralds are awarded to the top finishers, you can expect a fierce final sprint at the top of the ladder.
  • This is almost guaranteed in groups of 15 players matched at level 130.
  • Some players who know they won’t be able to join the final sprint will try to build a strong lead – around 500,000 Power – from day one. This tactic has a relatively high success rate, but it’s not foolproof.

Regarding quest rewards

  • Even though they don’t directly increase your power, quest rewards still contribute points to this event.
  • If you save them and claim them at the very end of the event, you can use them to boost your final sprint.
  • However, there’s a risk: if you can’t log into Hero Wars at the last moment, you’ll miss your chance to use them. Also, points from unclaimed quest rewards do not count toward your rank and cannot be converted to items, so they are a loss.

Stats you shouldn’t rush to increase

  • Some stats, such as Isaac’s artifact, are better left untouched during this event.
  • Be very careful not to level them up accidentally during the final push, as it cannot be undone.
  • In many cases, the long-term drawbacks of overleveling outweigh the short-term benefits of winning this event.

Decide when to compete

Choosing the right time to play is crucial.

  • Ultimately, this event is heavily influenced by matchmaking.
  • Players who spend large amounts of money won’t automatically be favored. Players who have carefully accumulated resources over the years can be very competitive if they choose the right round to make their move.
  • You can’t win first place every round. There is a limit to how much you can develop, and once you reach that limit, spending more money won’t guarantee you a win.

If you want to win optimally

  • To win consistently, you would need to focus on minimal hero development specifically aimed at maximizing your chances in that event.
  • However, winning easily over and over will eventually reduce your overall development potential.
  • That said, heroes that aren’t developed properly aren’t very useful. Over-optimizing just for this event can actually ruin your overall gameplay experience.

Should you hold back on developing heroes for this event?

  • This is a tough question.
  • Hero Wars is a balance of resource management, hero development, and competitive play.
  • Think carefully about what you personally value and enjoy most about the game. Winning this event certainly has its rewards and importance, but whether it’s worth sacrificing broader development is something only you can decide.

Power Tournament for Top Players

  • If you have completed a significant amount of hero development and still have a few useful heroes, you might consider participating in this event. However, compared to the preferred group, the benefits are relatively modest, and the final sprint tends to be unfavorable. You’ll have to decide carefully whether it’s better to push or pull back.
  • If you’ve mostly finished developing your main heroes and are casually working on minor ones, your main motivation for participating is probably the limited avatar reward given to first-place winners. If you really want that avatar, you’ll need to aggressively spend your saved resources to make a serious push for first place.
  • For players who have fully developed all of their Heroes, this event is almost irrelevant. No matter how hard you try, there’s basically no way to get ranked. At this point, you are simply waiting for new Heroes to be added to the game.

Overall

  • This event can be seen as a way to help newer Hero Wars players catch up with more established players.
  • For complete beginners, it leans heavily towards pay-to-win. However, after a few years of playing, the situation changes – you can get good results without spending money if you play smart.
  • Long-time players may find this event frustrating, but considering that most other events tend to favor veterans, it’s understandable that some events would reverse the usual advantage.
  • For players who have completed their hero development and are willing to spend money to get that first place avatar, this event is probably the toughest. Unfortunately, they are in the worst position.
  • Some people may not fully understand, but there are players who really value ranking rewards like avatars and frames.
  • Overall, this is a competitive event with very different advantages and disadvantages compared to other events. Participation is optional, and your strategy for this event should be different from your usual approach.
  • It’s a good opportunity to rethink your priorities and decide how you want to get involved.
