[Hero Wars Guide] Server Merge (August 22 2026): Affected Servers, Changes, and FAQ

On Saturday, August 22, 2026, Hero Wars will merge selected servers to increase player activity and improve server population balance.

This server merge will combine multiple servers into a shared environment. As a result, Guild War, Arena, Grand Arena, and other rankings will be reset, creating a new competitive environment among merged servers.

This article explains the affected servers, server merge changes, player impact, and important information you should know before the merge.

Quick Summary

• On Sunday, August 16, 2026, Players and Guilds on affected servers will be transferred to the destination servers designated by the developers. A significant portion of the total server population will be consolidated during this merge.
• Players on Retired Servers (servers that will be merged into another server) will be moved automatically. Players already on destination servers will remain there, but they will also be affected by ranking resets.
• If multiple characters on different servers are merged into the same destination server under the same account, you must select one character to retain. Deleted characters will be compensated with Emeralds equivalent to the total amount spent on those characters.
• If you do not want your character to be included in the merge, use the free Transfer Ticket provided before the merge.
• After the merge, Guild War, Arena, and Grand Arena will be reset. All Guilds and players from the merged servers will compete together in the new rankings.
• Export important records such as Clash of Worlds Battle Logs and Guild Raid Battle Logs before the merge, as they will be deleted.

Server Merge Overview

The merger was initially announced on August 7 with a scheduled date of August 16, but an additional announcement on August 14 stated that the schedule was being reviewed. The current tentative date is August 22.

Total Number of Servers After the Merge (652 → 282 Servers)

After the server merge, the number of Hero Wars (Web) servers will decrease from 652 to 282.

• Retired Servers: A total of 372 servers will be merged into designated destination servers.
• Destination Servers: A total of 83 servers will receive players and Guilds from retired servers.
• Unaffected Servers: A total of 197 servers will remain unchanged (as of August 7, 2026).

Average Destination Server Gap: 66 Server Numbers

On average, affected players will be transferred to a server that is approximately 66 server numbers older.

• Average Time Difference: During periods when two new servers were opened each week, a gap of 66 server numbers corresponds to roughly 33 weeks (about 8 months) of progression.
• Large Variations: While the average gap is 66 server numbers, some players will be transferred to servers that are a gap of more than 200 servers older. This can significantly increase the level of competition, especially for newer or free-to-play players.
• Check Your Assignment: Before simply accepting your assigned destination server, compare your current server with the destination server and see how large the gap actually is.
• Consider Using Your Free Transfer Ticket: If the assigned destination server is much older than your current server, using the free Transfer Ticket to move to a different eligible server may provide a better long-term experience.

Servers with Large Server Number Gaps

Not all server merges are equal. Some destination assignments involve exceptionally large jumps.

• 100+ Server Jump: Players moving more than 100 server numbers should carefully evaluate whether the assigned destination is the best option.
• 200+ Server Jump: A jump exceeding 200 server numbers can dramatically increase the level of competition, particularly for newer or free-to-play players. Using the free Transfer Ticket to relocate to a closer server may provide a better long-term experience.

Note on Early Servers

Servers 4 and 5 were previously merged into Server 3 and retired. They are currently treated as skipped server numbers and no longer exist as active servers.

What Happens Depending on Your Server Status

The impact of the server merge depends on your current server status.

Players on Retired Servers

• Players on retired servers will be automatically transferred to the destination servers designated by the developers.
• Affected players will receive one free Transfer Ticket before the merge.
• If you do not want to participate in the merge, you can use this Transfer Ticket to move your character to an eligible server before the merge.

Players on Destination Servers

• Players already on destination servers will remain on their current server.
• Guild War, Arena, and Grand Arena rankings will be reset after the merge.
• Players and Guilds from retired servers will join this destination server, creating a new competitive environment among all merged servers.

Players on Unaffected Servers

• Players on unaffected servers will not be directly affected by this merge.
• However, Players or entire Guilds who want to avoid the server merge may choose to move to another server using a Transfer Ticket.

Considerations Before the Server Merge

• Individual Players: Decide whether your priority is staying with your current Guild or finding the most suitable server for yourself. If your Guild plans to remain together, following your Guild Master’s decision is often the simplest choice. Otherwise, it may be better to experience the merged server first before deciding whether to transfer elsewhere, since the competitive landscape may change across many servers—not only the ones being merged.
• Players with Multiple Characters: If you have characters on multiple merging servers, decide in advance whether you want to consolidate your account or preserve multiple characters by using the free Transfer Ticket. While paid purchases will be compensated with Emeralds, all other progress on deleted characters will be lost.
• Guild Masters: Decide whether to relocate your Guild before the merge or wait and evaluate the new environment afterward. Either approach can be valid, but make sure to communicate your Guild’s plan clearly so members know what to expect.

Server Merge Changes and Player Impact

The following changes will take effect as part of the server merge.

Free Transfer Ticket

• Players on affected servers will receive one free Transfer Ticket.
• This ticket allows players to transfer their character to an older server that is not included in the merge.
• You cannot transfer your character back to a server included in the merge until the server merge process has been completed.

When to Use the Transfer Ticket

• Guild Coordination: If your Guild is planning to move together, follow your Guild Master’s instructions.
• Post-Merge Observation: Because server merges often lead to initial activity shifts and roster reorganization, waiting to assess the post-merge environment before deciding to move is a highly practical option.

Multiple Characters on Merging Servers

• If you have multiple characters on servers included in the merge, you can choose one character and its progress to keep.
• Other characters will be deleted.
• You will receive Emerald compensation equal to the total amount spent on deleted characters.
• Progress obtained through non-paying methods will not be restored.
• If you want to keep multiple characters, transfer them to a server that is not included in the merge before August 16.
• Here, multiple characters refers to characters associated with the same email address or account that can be switched between on the server selection screen.
  Accounts managed separately with different email addresses so that the characters can belong to the same Guild are not included.

Guilds Will Remain

• Guilds will remain intact after the merge.
• Guild members and Guild progress will also be preserved.
• If the Guild Master selects a different character or leaves, Guild Master leadership will automatically transfer according to the Guild’s internal rank order.

Guild War Reset

• Guild War standings will be reset after the merge.
• Players will receive four weeks of rewards based on their final Guild War result before the merge.
• After the merge, Guild War will restart from the Qualifying League on the merged server.
• Former Gold League Guilds from multiple servers will compete in the same server pool. Since the number of Gold League positions is limited, not every Guild will be able to return to the Gold League immediately.

Arena and Grand Arena Reset

• Arena and Grand Arena rankings will be reset.
• Weekly rewards will be distributed based on the final rankings before the merge.

Clash of Worlds

• The current Clash of Worlds Season 16 will not be affected by the server merge.
• Your Guild can continue participating in the current season as usual.
• However, to participate in the next season, your Guild must belong to either the Silver League or Gold League in Guild War.
• Please note that Clash of Worlds Battle Logs will be deleted during the merge.
• If you want to preserve your records, export your Battle Logs before August 16.

Guild Raid Battle Logs

All Guild Raid Battle Logs will be deleted.

This includes attack records against:

• Weekly Minions
• Asgard Boss

If you want to keep these records, export them before August 16.

Server Merge FAQ

Closed Servers & Auto-Transfer

Can I Stay on a Server That Is Being Closed?

• No. If your character remains on a server scheduled for closure when the merge begins on August 16, 2026, it will automatically be transferred to its assigned destination server.
• Ticket Preservation: Your free Transfer Ticket will not be consumed by this automatic transfer and will remain in your inventory for future use.

Can I Transfer to a Server That Is Being Closed?

• No. Once the merge starts on August 16, 2026, closing servers will be permanently removed, making future transfers impossible. (Note: Transfers are only possible before maintenance begins on August 16.)
• Before August 16, 2026, you may transfer from one server scheduled for closure to another server that is also scheduled for closure. If you do so, your character will be automatically transferred to the destination server assigned to your new server, not the destination originally assigned to your previous server. In other words, using a Transfer Ticket before the server merge allows you to change which destination server you will be moved to. Be sure to keep this in mind before deciding to use your ticket.

Can I Create a New Character on a Server That Is Being Closed?

• No. After the merge begins on August 16, 2026, closed servers will no longer appear on the server selection list. (Note: New characters can only be created prior to the merge date.)

Do I Need to Do Anything to Participate in the Server Merge?

• No. Any character remaining on a closing server when maintenance begins on August 16, 2026 will automatically be included in the merge.

If I’m Not in a Guild, Am I Exempt from the Server Merge?

• No. The server merge applies to all accounts on affected servers regardless of Guild status. While Guilds transfer as complete units, unaffiliated players and solo Guild members will also be automatically moved to the destination server.

Do I have to participate in the server merge?

• No.
• Players on affected servers can use their free Transfer Ticket to move their character to an older server that is not included in the merge.
• You will not be able to return to a merged server until the server merge process has been completed.

What happens if I have multiple characters?

• You can keep only one character and its progress from the merged servers.
• Other characters will be deleted.
• You will receive Emerald compensation based on the amount spent on deleted characters.
• If you want to keep all characters, transfer them to another eligible server before the merge.

What happens to my in-game mail?

• The in-game mail of the character you keep will remain available after the merge.
• Mail belonging to deleted characters will be lost.

What happens to my Guild?

• Your Guild will remain unchanged after the merge.
• Guild members and Guild progress will transfer together.
• If Guild Master leadership needs to be transferred, it will follow the Guild’s internal hierarchy.
• Guild War will restart from the Qualifying League on the merged server after the merge. Former Gold League Guilds from each original server will compete together, so only a limited number of Guilds will be able to return to the Gold League.

Will Clash of Worlds progress reset?

• No.
• The current Clash of Worlds season will continue normally.
• However, Clash of Worlds Battle Logs will be deleted during the merge.

Will Arena rankings reset?

• Yes.
• Arena and Grand Arena rankings will be reset after the server merge.
• Weekly rewards will be distributed based on your final ranking before the merge.

Should I use my free Transfer Ticket immediately?

• Not necessarily. Waiting until the merged environment settles can often be the better choice.

Will Guild Frames Earned in AoC Be Preserved?

• Unknown.
• However, since in-game mail will be transferred, we believe it may be possible to carry over the frame by leaving it in the Guild Master’s mailbox. This is because the frame is granted to the Guild as soon as the Guild Master uses the mail.
• If the Guild Master has already used the frame, it may be possible to obtain it again by temporarily making a Guild member who has not yet used the frame the Guild Master. However, this has not been verified.

Will Guild War Features Be Expanded After the Server Merge?

• No.
• For example, even if seven servers are merged into a single server, the Gold League will still have six spots to compete for. As a result, the Guilds remaining in the Gold League will become increasingly concentrated around the paying players from each Guild.
• Players who do not want increased competition should consider moving to another server where the competition is relatively less intense, although it may not be as relaxed as their original environment.

Will Arena Features Be Expanded After the Server Merge?

• No.
• Even if the number of players increases sevenfold, Arena rewards will not increase sevenfold; the existing reward structure will remain unchanged.
• Regardless of how strong a player is, it will no longer be possible to secure Arena rewards as reliably as on the original server. As a next-best option, we recommend adjusting your reset time.

Server Merge Report

August 22, 2026

• Execution Delay: The server merge process started later than the announced time.
• Processing Duration: Unlike Nexters’ preliminary testing, the actual merge took approximately 90 minutes per server, which was longer than originally planned.
• Current Status: Only servers included in Merge Priorities 1–5 were processed. The August 22 merge is now complete.
• Remaining Servers: The remaining servers will be merged after a new schedule is determined.

Server Merge Announcement

Hey everyone! On August 16, we will merge selected servers to increase player activity. If you play on one of the affected servers, please note that you will not be able to enter the game for a short period during the maintenance. The exact maintenance time will be announced later.

Please pay attention to the following important information! 

❓ What if I don’t want to participate in the server merge?

⚠️Players on the affected servers can transfer their character to an eligible older server for free using a Transfer Ticket. We’ve sent one free Transfer Ticket to every player on the affected servers.

Please note that you won’t be able to transfer your character back to the servers being merged until the server merge has been completed.

❓ I have a character on both servers that are about to merge. What will happen to them?

⚠️If you have characters on several servers that are being merged together, you will receive a notification when you enter the game after the server merge. You will be able to choose which character/progress you want to keep on the merged server.

The other accounts will be deleted, but you will receive Emeralds equal to all the payments you’ve made on the deleted characters.

If you want to keep all characters, you can use your free Transfer Ticket to move each of them to an eligible older server before the merge.

❓ I have lots of letters In my ingame mail. What will happen to them?

⚠️ You will keep all your letters on accounts that will persists through merge. All letters on deleted accounts will be lost. 

❓What about Guilds, Guild War, Clash of Worlds, Arena, and Grand Arena?

⚠️ Nothing will happen to Guilds. If a Guild Master decides not to preserve their progress, the title of Guild Master will be transferred to the next Guild member in the hierarchy.

Your progress in Guild War will be reset. You will receive rewards for 4 weeks based on your last Guild War result before the server merge.

The server merge and Guild War reset will not affect the current Clash of Worlds season. All participants will continue competing as usual. However, to participate in the next Clash of Worlds season, your Guild must reach the Silver or Gold League in Guild War.

Please also note: the Clash of Worlds Battle Log will be cleared after the server merge. If you don’t want to lose your battle records, please export them before August 16.

The Guild Raid Battle Log will also be cleared. Records of attacks on Minions and Asgard boss made during the current week will be removed.

Your progress in Arena and Grand Arena will be reset. You will receive your weekly reward based on your final ranking before the server merge.

❓Why are these servers being merged?

⚠️ The purpose of the server merge is to increase player activity on the affected servers.

Server Merge FAQ (11, August, 2026)

What happens with the ticket? Does it stay in the inventory if you don’t use it?

The ticket is not displayed as a separate item in your inventory. Instead, once you claim it from the mail, it adds one extra free server transfer to your account. So, if you already had one free transfer available, you will have two after claiming the ticket. There is currently no expiration period associated with this extra transfer.

When exactly will the merge happen and will there be downtime?

The merge is scheduled for August 16. The affected servers will remain available until the merge process begins, after which they will be temporarily unavailable. The maintenance is expected to start around 9:00–10:00 CEST and take approximately 4–5 hours. The duration is primarily due to the number of servers involved in the merge, and we’ll aim to complete the process as quickly as possible.

Which servers can I transfer to after the merge? What server is considered my origin server after the merge? Will there be standard limitations in place, such as server age?

After the merge, the servers available for transfer will be determined based on the server your character was transferred from, rather than the server it was moved to as part of the merge. In other words, for transfer purposes, your pre-merge server will still be treated as your origin server. The usual server transfer restrictions, including limitations related to server age, will continue to apply based on that origin server.

What rate is used for emerald purchase to return to my main character if the other ones are gone during the merge?

There is no single fixed conversion rate for this. The amount transferred back to your main character is determined through a complex calculation that considers several variables. VIP Points are among the main factors in that calculation.

Will my in-game mail stay unopened/the same?

Yes, your mail will be transferred together with the character. If you have 2 or more, the mail will stay intact on the character that you choose to keep.

What made you choose specific servers for the merger, what was the logic behind it?

We selected groups of older servers with relatively low activity and similar average player power levels. The goal was to combine servers that, after the merge, would form a healthy, active, and nearly full server with a strong player population and fair competition. The overall logic behind the server selection has remained the same as in our previous server merges.

What happens with my Artifact Keys?

The merge will not affect your Artifact Keys.

Server Merge Postponing (11, August, 2026)

Important news, Guardians. The upcoming server merge we announced earlier has been postponed. The merge is still planned, and new preliminary merge date is 22.08

The reason for the delay is a technical issue affecting Prestige progression during server merges. We want to make sure that no one loses any progress, so we are taking some additional time to resolve the issue before proceeding with the merge.

Server Merge Update (20, August, 2026)

Folks, I’ll get to the two other posts tomorrow, but today let me post a merge update for you.

The server merge is scheduled for Saturday, August 22, with the process expected to begin at around 9:00 CEST. Here’s what to expect during the merge:

Downtime
We currently expect the overall merge process to take approximately 3–4 hours. Servers will be merged in groups, so individual servers may be unavailable for a shorter period of time (10-20 mins)
Please keep in mind that this is an estimate, and the actual duration may vary depending on how the process goes.

Guild War
All guilds from the merging servers will be moved to the Qualifying League after the merge, and their current Guild War league and rating will be reset.

Guilds that were in Bronze, Silver, or Gold before the merge will receive compensation based on their previous league. Qualifying League guilds will not receive this compensation.

Clash of Worlds
Clash of Worlds will continue as usual. However, since the game may be temporarily unavailable for your server group on Saturday, we recommend using your CoW attacks on Friday where possible to avoid being affected by the downtime.

We’ll share any further updates if the schedule changes.

Server Merge Update (23, August, 2026)

• The first wave of merges is completed and there will be no more server merges today due to potential technicals issues with the recently launched events.
• We still plan to merge all the servers that were in our initial merge plan, but that will be done in waves and we will be picking safest dates for each wave in order to cause the least disturbance for players and face the least technical risks.
• Our team will make an adjustment in time estimations for merges, and we will come back with more info on next dates for following merge waves next week.
• Once again, we sincerely apologise to all affected players for the delay and appreciate your patience and understanding.
