Chabba’s Strengths and Team Strategy

Like Corvus, Chabba is a tank who deals pure damage. His signature first skill Swallow removes the enemy’s frontline hero for six seconds, inflicting pure damage and completely disabling their abilities.
His fourth skill grants health absorption during Swallow, allowing him to stay durable against physical, magic, and even pure damage. This makes him one of the few tanks—alongside Rufus—capable of mitigating pure damage.
Swallow’s mechanics leave opponents with limited counterplay, as the effect bypasses most defensive tools.
With Ascension Skill II, Chabba gains physical attack power whenever he recovers health. Since nearly all his skills scale with physical attack, this creates a snowball effect: the longer the fight drags on, the stronger his Swallow damage and sustain become. When paired with Khorus to resist debuffs, Chabba can rival Julius in resilience.
The physical attack buff from Ascension Skill II triggers from any health recovery and synergizes with Oliver’s Patron effect and various healers. Recovery effects from Nebra or Phobos also activate it.
Thea’s “acceleration at low health” mechanic complements Chabba’s sustain-oriented playstyle.
Ascension V upgrades Swallow, fixing its biggest weakness—occasional missed activations—and enhances his fourth skill, converting incoming damage into additional healing. Together, these upgrades boost both his offensive consistency and defensive endurance.
Fully ascended, Chabba steadily builds physical attack through recovery triggers and refines his skill rotation, making him highly effective in long battles.
Swallow directly counters dodge-based tanks like Aurora and Dante, while also neutralizing frontline threats such as Lyria and Amira. This opens paths to dismantle enemy backlines.
When Chabba defeats an enemy with his first skill, Swallow, he gains extra energy, enabling him to chain into another Swallow more quickly. This aggressive tank style—repeatedly devouring and finishing off opponents—can become a central win condition for his team.
Swallow pairs effectively with frontline-breaking DPS, working particularly well alongside Ishmael.
As a single-target attacker with a built-in self-debuff effect, Chabba fits seamlessly into control-oriented teams. In CoW, he also functions well as an Engineer’s defensive tank.
Because his skills scale strongly with physical attack, he pairs well with Nebula’s buffs and artifact enhancements.
Switching patron pets broadens Chabba’s winning options: Albus excels in aggressive play, while Oliver performs best in prolonged battles.

Disadvantages of Chabba

Very low base armor for a tank—lower even than K’arkh or the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. His armor-scaling traits only matter when his health is already low.
Extremely stat-dependent: underinvestment leaves him far weaker than armor-reliant tanks.
High physical attack but no armor penetration, meaning his non-Swallow damage is often blocked. Against dodge-heavy teams, he risks becoming little more than an energy feeder.
Limited synergy with common team buffs, since he relies on Swallow’s pure damage rather than crits or armor penetration.
His Ascension Skill’s physical attack self-buff is activated by health recovery, which makes it vulnerable to delay from recovery inhibitors such as Black Celeste, Jet, or Biscuit. However, Biscuit’s effect only blocks healing from allies and does not affect Chabba’s self-healing from his fourth skill.
The crucial Devour (Swallow) ability can be cleansed by White Celeste. With proper timing, she can almost always neutralize it, making her a hard counter to Chabba. Still, if Chabba gains the ability to chain-cast his first skill through Ascension upgrades, he may occasionally outpace her rotation, meaning this counter is not entirely reliable.
Devour inflicts pure damage on the enemy frontline hero. Against a frontline Rufus, however, Chabba becomes ineffective since Rufus will continually revive. Pairing Chabba with Morrigan can suppress these revivals, but investing two slots in this combo restricts team flexibility. Thus, Rufus is a hard counter.
Beyond Rufus, Chabba can be countered by teams that field expendable “bait” heroes intended to be devoured, forcing low-value trades and diminishing Devour’s impact.
When disrupted, Chabba not only fails to protect allies but also feeds energy to the enemy, raising his skill ceiling.
His Swallow often activates too slowly, leaving him vulnerable to burst teams before his sustain kicks in—though ascension upgrades help.
His second skill’s physical damage scales poorly without armor penetration.
His fourth skill mainly enhances Swallow’s healing, effectively leaving him with three impactful abilities.
Despite being classified as a tank, Chabba’s ally protection often depends almost entirely on the armor buff from his first artifact. If the enemy places a frontline DPS, Chabba can neutralize their damage by devouring them. However, this approach bypasses mitigation—it removes threats instead of shielding allies—rendering the artifact’s protective role somewhat irrelevant.
Chabba must be placed at the very front of all heroes, which prevents strategies that rely on holding the line with other tanks before attacking.
Chabba’s strength is tightly bound to his stat scaling. His effectiveness shifts with balance updates—at times a top-tier tank, at other times merely average.

Summary

Chabba is a highly specialized Swallow tank with extreme strengths and glaring weaknesses. In the right matchups, he can dismantle enemy formations with ease. But against his counters, he risks collapsing entirely. This makes him one of the most polarizing and situational heroes in Hero Wars.
